Looks like Tony Miano has a problem with cookies -- Oreos in particular.

Outside their secure little echo chamber where only those who agree with them are allowed over the threshold and everyone 'out there' is an enemy to be converted they do look faintly ridiculous, going on and on on the same subject, wearing one another into a groove about who has the Spirit while the world around them is enjoying itself in all it's painful, exciting, frightening, warm, loving glory.

Is there any logical reason why any of us should give two shits about whether we are banned from Miano's private mental circle-jerk? The only thing we can do is report him to the authorities when he's being a dangerous asshole.

Who knew equality could be so delicious?

Look, let me explain something I didn't realize needed to be explained. Churches can marry whoever they want! They can be (in my humble opinion) as bigoted and intolerant as they please. There are churches who refuse to marry inter-religious couples. There are churches who refuse to marry bi-racial couples. There are churches who refuse to marry divorcees. Churches can marry whoever they want, and refuse God's blessing to whoever they deem unworthy.

The state is different. The state does not have a free pass to trample individual rights underfoot the same way churches do. Because marriage in the eyes of the state is different from marriage is the eyes of God, even if you consider them interchangeable. The above paragraph pretty much proves this, in that the church can refuse who they want because they have the right to exercise their religion however they see fit, within reason (no marrying multiple teens or handling snakes or whatnot, that sort of thing).You and your religious fellows reserve the right to refuse any homosexual couple at the door, but that doesn't mean the state does.

Unlike Marriage In the Eyes of God, which is purely of emotional or religious value, Marriage In the Eyes of the State has tangible legal benefits that are currently withheld from homosexual couples based purely on the gender of the person that they're marrying, which is frankly inexcusable. The thing about legal marriage is that it's secular, and thus needs a secular reason to be refused to homosexual couples. But thus far, the only reasoning has been purely religious in nature, which is fine for churches but less fine for the secular government that defines our country.

There are literally over 1,000 legal benefits, rights and responsibilities that every married Christian on this blog enjoys and/or benefits from or will enjoy and/or benefit from at some point, and depending on how long you've been married, you may take most of them completely for granted. Things include visitation rights and rights of medical proxy, filing joint taxes, sick leave, bereavement leave (I certainly hope no one here has made use of this...), days off following the birth of a child, family health insurance from your place of business, family packages or discount rates from private health insurance companies, and visitation rights if your spouse is (wrongfully, I'm sure) convicted of some crime.

These benefits are not granted to you by God. They're granted to you by your state. Therefore, there is no reason to deny them to homosexual couples.

Some of you claim to be "good people" when you have no basis outside of your own or society's opinion to make such a claim.
