Now that is new to me and very interesting. What does God have against using tools on stones? Perhaps His children should not be allowed to think that their intelligence or self-expression is worthy.

Actually, it has to do with the 2nd commandment - "You shall not make for yourself a carved image - any likeness
of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath..." - given Israel's propensity for
making idols to worship.

This is just my commentary on how it reads.

Commentary is fine - as long as you are commenting on what is actually written. I say that because
in your commentary you missed the part about God telling Moses to go down and come back up and
the part where God gave Moses the 10 commandments....God never spoke directly to the people.
Anyway, I wont belabor the point.

You're right, I screwed up my reading, sorry.

That likeness struck me too, but that still begs the question: why no idols? I suspect that God doesn't like idols for the same reason I gave: too uppity.

Uppitiness and religion don't mix. Bourbon and dope, on the other hand, are interesting...

Idols represent others Gods....other than the one true God.

In my opinion, Bathtub, you didn't screw up your reading.
The only screw up I see is reading a book/translation (or whatever it is) that divides the Bible into sources.

What's the problem with that? I thought there was widespread agreement, at least since the nineteenth century, even among Christians, that the Bible is the work of multiple authors.
