2011: Tis The Season for Bible Games

Postby IntellectualNinja » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:35 pm

Well, Christmas is approaching, and it has been a while since we made terrible Bible games to celebrate the season.

The Angry Video Game Nerd explains:

So, get out your emulators, hex editors, or whatever floats your boat, and let's make terrible games.

Tools and links:
FCEUX: NES emulator, debugger, hex editor, etc: http://fceux.com/web/home.html
Utilities and lots of documents: http://www.romhacking.net/
Tutorials and basic game details like memory locations: http://www.thealmightyguru.com/Games/Ha ... =Main_Page
Lots of info on the NES: http://nesdev.parodius.com/
Tile Layer Pro for editing NES, SNES, and Genesis graphics: http://segaretro.org/Tile_Layer_Pro

If you don't want to hack NES ROMs (which is easier than it sounds), there are a few pieces of software that will allow you to make games from scratch with little to no programming experience.
Game Maker is actually really good and allows you to make games fairly quickly: http://www.yoyogames.com/make
RPG Maker makes it easy to create games that focus on character interactions and development: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/

I have an idea for Castlevania 2, but it's going to take a few days to complete. I'm actually working on a custom patcher because I found a way to add new new code to the game. But I want to give everyone a little bit of a head start.

If you have an idea for a game but are unsure how to do something, let me know. It's probably easier than you think. Like changing the text in a NES game is usually as easy as editing a regular text file once you're set up.

I made my game in just two hours. Hope you like it!

Very good making it terrible, but it's supposed to be bible themed. I'm sure there's a way you can make tic tac toe even more boring by adding Bibles.

Gee, thanks for trampling on my feelings and making me feel insignificant and rejected..........
But, I'll work on my game some more and try again.

Notice that the Atheists are crossed out. That means they're going to Hell.

Froggie, your game is ready. I wonder if I hid any surprises in the EXE...

Typical Windowsism. When are you porting this game for Mac, Kait?

I'm not since I don't have a Mac, but I'll see if it runs under VMWare Player.
