It is particularly interesting to note that as negative reports started coming in, the publisher, Thomas Nelson Co., asked Jay Richards of the Discovery Institute to examine the veracity of Barton's claims. Yeah, the very same Discovery Institute who are masters of deceit began to doubt the credibility of the book which then spawned a more intense investigation.

And that is what makes this beat-down of Barton even more sweet. He was done in by not the commie liberals, but his very own team.

Thomas Kidd of World magazine said in an article:

Richards says in recent months he has grown increasingly troubled about Barton’s writings, so he asked 10 conservative Christian professors to assess Barton’s work.
Their response was negative. Some examples: Glenn Moots of Northwood University wrote that Barton in The Jefferson Lies is so eager to portray Jefferson as sympathetic to Christianity that he misses or omits obvious signs that Jefferson stood outside “orthodox, creedal, confessional Christianity.”

It was Christian Conservatives that brought Barton down and there is no way for him to climb out of that hole without starting a war of attrition with his fellow fundies, imo. He will never be able to claim that the liberals-did-it.

Everyday there are more and more reports about members of the xtian right coming out against Barton. This is great stuff! The reason that this stuff is so exciting to me is that -- I see a snowball effect coming on -- I do not recall anything that has been so successful in driving a wedge between different brands of fundies.

Baton is actually huge, huge, huge. His material is used to indoctrinate home-schooled fundies. It is Barton's bullshit that is THE cornerstone in propagating the "Christian nation" myth. Now there is a group of fundies who have actually decided that perhaps, just maybe, fundieness ought to actually have some STANDARDS.

Then Warren Throckmorton decided to actually grow a pair and inject a bit of honesty into the scene. The hatred towards Throckmorton is vol-fucking-canic! The way that Barton and his loyalists are going after Throckmorton makes Fred Phelps look like Mister Rogers!

Don't feel bad, they still hate us, really hate us -- but we are not such a real threat.
