Jason Lisle: Another sociopath?

A place to talk about specific theists and our interactions with 'em. Should we engage or dismiss? Are there effective strategies?

I've given up trying to win Jason over to the Dark Side. The Lord is too strong in him, dammit. I guess we need iron chariots to conquer this soul.

I have a new theory. Not a scientific theory, but the kind of theory where I'm in the shower and I think to myself.......

We constantly try to make sense out of why people can be so religious, from ignorant people right through highly educated people.
I've come to the conclusion that it is an obsession, plain and simple. There are all kinds of obsessions, and people that have them use any and all means to justify them,
Take hoarders for example. One guy I know of filled his first home with worthless junk, and then he bought another home and filled it up too. His kids tried to get him help but he never was able to get over it. He could make countless excuses why he needed that stuff and no amount of reason could change his mind. In the mean time he was a well liked industrial engineer at a local plant for his entire career.

Religion is only different in that most parents don't actually raise their kids to be hoarders, germophobes, chronic masturbators, or whatever, but parents Do raise their kids to think that they are hell bound unless they toe the line religiously. And from this type of cultural conditioning blooms a person who is scared of death and the devil and the obsession is planted deep in their psyche.

So, that's it.

Bye

I've been enjoying the "Wholly Crap!" series by Qillz (his YouTube channel is here) and now he's introduced me to a wonderful word, coined by Albert Ellis: musterbation. Sorry if I'm reposting this, I just couldn't resist:

I try to be cynical, but I just can't keep up. (Lily Tomlin)
