moon landing denial

Postby MaxFF » Thu Jan 26, 2012 5:03 am

Well here's an interesting post by Vox Day. It's insulting to all women, which is pretty much what you'd expect from Vox, but I didn't realize he was a moon landing denier. That was pretty amusing to find out. http://voxday.blogspot.com/2012/01/curi ... drome.html

I have absolutely no doubt that the first woman to walk on the Moon would somehow manage to trip and break her neck. Even if her "Moon walk" was staged on the same film stage that was used for the Apollo "landings".
It's obvious that guns are the work of an omniscient creator, how else would they fit perfectly into the human hand

Oh man, max, you made me go read a vox day post with comments- you owe me. But I must admit, it was a very interesting window into the fundie mind. I especially liked the comments from Nate:

I believe I am the lead Moon Landing denier here. VD appears mere agnostic on the matter... and amused by the various controversies.

Where as I... I am well aware that the Apollo Program has such emotional significance to people that they simply don't have the ability to think critically about it. It means to much. If the moon landing inspired you as a kid to grow up and be a rocket scientist... what happens when you find out its all BS? You would feel like your whole life was a lie. The human brain doesn't work that way. No way you would accept it.

So it is what it is... a laughable embarrassment of a hoax... that everyone has decided to simply take on faith because the government said so.

Pretty sad really.

After a fair amount of debate with some defenders of the Moon landing, Nate said this:

Number 1 reason we know man did not walk on the moon.

Because the Government says they did.

I've seldom seen such a barefaced admission of motivation for an irrational belief. Unfortunately, all kinds of irrational beliefs take hold because of such motivations.

Check out the thread- it's entertaining. But depressing, when you realize that a lot of them probably vote.

What Nate did was explain precisely the process o a kid being raised as a Chrisitian including the attendant emotional investment that will not allow them to see the facts. Possible Poe?

Possibly- there are a lot of good poes out there. But my gut feeling is that he's the real thing. I've been hanging out a bit at Apollohoax, a good debunking site (but it's amazing that such is necessary), and unless the deniers there are all poes, along with all the chemtrailies, haarpies, birthers, troothers, and hollow earthers, Nate fits right in and seems to be one of them. As bathtub said, it's awesome that Vox also seems to be a moonie, although he's careful not to come right out and say it. I'm continually amazed that high intelligence (and yes, Vox is pretty bright) can coexist with abysmally low critical thinking skills.
