Interview with Tony Perkins- Laying it on the Line

Postby E-lad » Sun Jun 24, 2012 8:31 pm

I have often commented that the unstated truth from the religious right is that they want to do away with government social programs in order to fill their churches, and here is the proof of that. Perkins claims that local churches will take up the slack in protecting the poor and disadvantaged; but what he doesn't say is that, of course, that person will have to be a tithing member of some bullshit church. Add that to the fact that there have been plenty of times when the churches did not have the wherewithal to care for the poor, including the great depression and now as the economy has tanked. Of course, it is obvious that the churches are not stepping up to care for the poor and disavantaged because if they were, we would have no poor or disadvantaged.

The Republican budget cuts are designed, or at least they lead the evangelical leaders to believe, that the cuts will fill the pews, coffers, and influence of the local churches. This is how the Republicans pander to the evangelical vote.

Boy, that interview really did lay bare their motivations, Froggie, great find.

YEs, poor, uneducated, disadvantaged people are a prime target for religious conversion. The fundies target the vulnerable. The more people who have little or nothing going for them, the more converts they get into their church, the more money and power the church gets.

Tony Perkins aka Anthony, was once in a film called Edge of Sanity, a semi pornographic horror crime fiction offering about a man with a bad leg who experimented on himself in a alternate universe Victorian London where he became Jack Hyde, physically fit and a killer of women.
The end saved me, i.e. scared the hell of me. Truly. I had to sleep with my bedside light on for a week.
Oh, different Tony.
Sorry.
(The item above was satire and not to be taken seriously. Tony Perkins the actor was a gentle, likeable man who only played psychos and died of AIDS and is not to be mixed up with the nasty little fundie right wing pseudo Christian who bastardises the word 'family' and thinks gays should not have rights at all).
I wish Martin Bashir would have got him to admit that Jesus preached fair goes for all, no more hunger or poverty, i.e. a socialist.
Material poverty is real poverty, Perkins, not spiritual poverty which is just a way of saying 'believe what we do and go hungry and be homeless but you'll go to heaven'.
How can you teach someone to fish when you've privatised all the ponds for your own free market uses?
IS GOD WILLING TO PREVENT EVIL,BUT NOT ABLE? THEN HE IS NOT OMNIPOTENT.IS HE ABLE BUT NOT WILLING?THEN HE IS MALEVOLENT.IS HE BOTH ABLE AND WILLING? THEN WENCE COMETH EVIL? IS HE NEITHER ABLE NOR WILLING?THEN WHY CALL HIM GOD. (EPICURIUS : CIRCA 300 BC)

That's the funny thing about Christian conservative politics, innit? Maybe they should read the Bible.
