Listen, this is my second post because my first was going off on Mr Comfort for his opinion on Anne Frank, on the Professional Non Thinkers section.
Very rude, bursting in and giving it out before first introducing myself.
I am 47, female, a deist, a recovering Christian and I live on the Southern border of the Greater Manchester UK conurbation with my three cats, Domino, Lyra and Oscar. I love to read, listen to music, and write oddball romance tales. I am not as worldly (street smarts) as someone my age is expected to be. I am in a relationship, no details, only to say that in the UK one day it's going to be a case of civil partnership and not marriage, and the only person who accepts us is my Mother.
I was brought up by my (late) Dad, an atheist, materialist and humanist, and my (still living) Mother, a humanist and weak atheist.
(Unless I'm very much mistaken;
Strong atheist-there is no god, live with it.
Weak atheist-I don't believe there can be a god.)
I was brought up with love, to respect all living things, protect the weak, give everyone a fair hearing, and do as little harm as possible. It was only when I became a Christian that I learned that, in some churches, and some Christians, tolerance and acceptance are a sin
I've got two younger sisters, both married with children. Dead conventional! They're happy enough!
I became a Christian out of watching Christians and their love and charity. I walked away, after a long struggle, almost a quarter of a century later, after realising that if god exists he is not to be found in the grumpy old men's ramblings found in the Bible and the creator of a universe which is so big the visible bit is measure at 28 billion light years across and living things so small they are measured in fractions of millimetres, who created rocks on planets we will never see, is not going to be interested in what one species on one planet at the back end of the galaxy gets up to.
Now I think about it, I probably was a false convert, because not only am I a first-born, whom Biblegod does not like. (When he has a temper tantrum he doesn't always destroy every living thing, but sometimes kills only the first-borns.) but a woman has never given birth (a mix of choice and the fact the process could kill me) who indulges in unnatural passions.(?) Biblegod was probably glad to see the back of me.
I will pop in, with your permission, from time to time, to look around, and maybe comment.
I glad these places exist, to combat the fear-driven rubbish spouted by people like Mr Comfort and his ilk.
Thank you very much.
All the best.
IS GOD WILLING TO PREVENT EVIL,BUT NOT ABLE? THEN HE IS NOT OMNIPOTENT.IS HE ABLE BUT NOT WILLING?THEN HE IS MALEVOLENT.IS HE BOTH ABLE AND WILLING? THEN WENCE COMETH EVIL? IS HE NEITHER ABLE NOR WILLING?THEN WHY CALL HIM GOD. (EPICURIUS : CIRCA 300 BC)
