Hoe Are You Spending New Years Eve?

Postby E-lad » Fri Dec 31, 2010 9:20 pm

While most of you don't write abut personal stuff, I love to hear about customs and personal stories. Fuck me.

I have a dutch oven full of sauerkraut, pork, hot dogs and kielbasa on the stove. #2 daughter and #3 son are here with two of the grand kids.
We never know who might show up. New Years eve is a grab bag of sorts. Nevertheless, it is one of the holidays that I do the exact same thing for over thirty years now.

We've considered going out to one of those high falooting parties, but never got around to it.

What are you doing?

This is one of the reasons I write so much, Froggie. I look for opportunities to share the personal stuff, rather than babbling about abstractions.

I'll tell you how I did spend my New Years Eve. I've known my core group of friends for over 30 years now. One got married to a wonderful person, and the two of them have become the focal point for most of our gatherings.

I spent friday night and most of saturday at Eric and Jen's house. We had lots hats, a keg of Sierra Nevada pale ale, a booze luge (and a motley assortment of libations to go with it), fireworks, a raffle, a fresh ham dinner, music of all sorts (some performed live by our jazz band), and lots of memories - some documented (fortunately and unfortunately) by video.

Even as we spend less and less time with each other because life pushes us that way, I swear we're growing closer and closer in spite of it. It was a great time.

It's sunday morning, and I'm still a little groggy...

Happy New Year to you and your family, Dale!

EDIT: I've spent several New Years doing nothing. To be honest, it didn't bother me too much.
"Polymath" means "having learned much"; the correct word for "having failed to learn much" is simply "Ray".
