Are we not getting chat back at any time? If so, I think that sucks.

Granted, trolls don't really bother me. I have a thick skin and I have no problem ignoring a troll. I just think that we could have solved this in other ways that simply torching the chat altogether.

But, this isn't my site and I don't run it.

vms really had no choice in the matter, Nohm. The guest crossed the line with rufus by bringing his nephew into it, and rufus responded with overt death threats, as vms previously noted. The guest then informed the chat room that he was going to notify the police about the matter. If vms as an admin had not shut down the chat room and allowed things to escalate, his own (and the board's) liability in the event that something had happened to the guest would have been unquestionable. As unpleasant as this all is, vms acted responsibly in shutting down the chat. And as it stands, if something unfortunate were to happen to the guest or his family, that liability still exists, albeit being lessened by the shutdown.

I appreciate the explanation of the events, Lehman; I didn't know all of those details.

My opinion still stands, although I also understand the legal ramifications. I come from a very different point of view when it comes to dealing with trolls, even those who would mention family members of mine.

Yes, thanks, lehman, I didn't have that background either. I don't condone death threats, but rufus shouldn't have to deal with assholes like this either.
